Mexican acoustic bass guitars

You may recognize from mexico acoustic bass guitar, bass guitar traditional or also called mexican bass guitar. The bajo sexto, with six pairs of strings, resembles a twelve-string guitar tuned an octave lower. The heavy gauge strings generate a large string tension, yet the guitar is built relatively lightly. The bajo sexto began to be used in Texas in the 1920s with the rise of "Tex-Mex" music, where it continues to be used to play the parts which would be played by the piano in traditional American popular music. It matches the standard tuning of a 12-string guitar, one octave lower. The tuning of these instruments is (capital letters are an octave lower than small letters) : BAJA SEXTO - Ee Aa Dd Gg Cc Ff  and BAJO SEXTO - Ee Aa Dd Gg Bb ee

Brian May's other equipment

In the history of the rock guitar, Queen’s Brian May is surely unique in that he has used just one instrument for pretty much his entire career, both in the recording studio and onstage. What’s more, it’s one he built in a shed at the bottom of his garden.

Brian May's other equipment
Even those with just a passing interest in the band’s output will find it difficult to believe that the guitar sounds they’re hearing all came froma single instrument. Even Eddie Van Halen, probably the only other guitarist to have enjoyed the same level of stadium-filling success playing an instrument he made himself, jettisoned his striped-up Frankenstein when he finally threw in his lot with Ernie Ball.

Brian still uses his Red Special, but as fascinating as the story is, we’re not here to talk about it.In the issue 338 of Guitarist magazine, Brian tells us about some of his lesser known pieces of gear - and here is an additional look at yet more gems unearthed from his vault, complete with insights from the man himself.

Guitar Swing

how to play guitar swing? This technique was created by Jonas Hansson (Silver Mountain)and is shown in this videoclip from 1981. This the earliest proof of who started it and when. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuZcO-wC9z0.

A good way to do it slowly and do not rush, then you will get how to play guitar the perfect swing.
  1. Take the guitar neck and part of the guitar body and take it and throw it back like your using an axe. There is an alternate way to do this, swinging it towards the pickup side, but this is telling you the headstock/neck direction.
  2. Make sure you don't drop the guitar down, this will make it drop and slam into your legs. Throw it back hard enough so that it is thrown around your torso.
  3. During this second that has been thrown back and behind you, put your right arm up (left arm for left handed guitarists) so it doesn't slam into your elbow.
  4. At this point it's in front of you, but be careful, it's going to swing up, (not fast) but still swing up. Just hold on to the neck and put your right arm on the body ready to play away!

Bernard Addison

Bernard Addison (1905 - 1990) began his career as a banjo player in the early 1920s and by 1929 was playing the guitar.

He made a name for himself in the late 1920s and early 1930s with groups with names like "The Swamplanders" and "The Seminole Syncopators". In 1930 he recorded with Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers and with Louis Armstrong.

In 1935 he was working with Freddy Jenkins in New York when they recorded two Addison vehicles "Toledo Shuffle" and "Swingin' em Down". Both prominently featured Addison's guitar with Toldeo Shuffle recognized as Addison's Opus.

As a testament to Addison's musicianship he worked and recorded with the best jazz players of his day, including Sidney Bechet, Mezz Mezzrow, Benny Carter, Henry Allen among others and with many rising stars such as Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgearld and Coleman Hawkins.

Addison continued an active performance and recording schedule well into the 1960s. Late in his career he made a record with Eubie Blake.

Bernard Addison was a solid rhythm player, and also a creative soloist. The sides he cut with Freddie Jenkins remain the outstanding examples of his work.

Jazz Guitar Chord

This is a summary of jazz guitar chord formula, including the following:

Major Jazz Guitar Chords

We take the A chord as our starting point:

formula: 1 3 5
notes: A C# E

We want this chord to become a major 7 chord so we add the seventh note:

formula: 1 3 5 7
notes: A C# E G#

We'll exchange the root on the 3rd string for the 7 and that looks like this:
-->

Minor Jazz Guitar Chords

Our starting point now is the Amaj7 chord and now we want the chord to become a minor 7 chord.

formula: 1 3 5 7 --> 1 b3 5 b7
notes: A C# E G# --> A C E G

So we have to go from the C# to a C and from a G# to a G:
-->

Dominant Jazz Guitar Chords

Let's build an A7 chord out of the Am7 chord.

formula: 1 b3 5 b7 --> 1 3 5 b7
notes: A C E G --> A C# E G

We'll have to raise the 3rd note to make the chord dominant:
-->

Minor 7b5 Jazz Guitar Chords

We start again from the Am7 chord and we go to an Am7b5 this time.

formula: 1 b3 5 b7 --> 1 b3 b5 b7
notes: A C E G --> A C Eb G

We'll have to lower the 5th:
-->
Don't play the open high E string, it's a natural 5.

Minor/Major 7 Jazz Guitar Chords

And we start again from the Am7 chord, this time to get an Am/maj7 chord.

formula: 1 b3 5 b7 --> 1 b3 5 7
notes: A C E G --> A C E G#

We have to raise the 7:
-->

Diminished 7 Jazz Guitar Chords

To obtain an A diminished chord we start from a half diminished chord.

formula: 1 b3 b5 b7 --> 1 b3 b5 bb7
notes: A C Eb G --> A C Eb Gb

We have to lower the G, but because the G is an open string in our m7b5 voicing we place the Gb on the high E string and put the root on the G string:
-->
You can apply this principle to all guitar chord voicings on the guitar. Find out the notes of your voicing an adapt them to the chord formula's. In the beginning this goes a bit slow, but after a while you don't have to think about it anymore.

The next step is putting extensions in your guitar chords.

accessories

accessories is something very important for a guitarist, whether it is accessories that attach to the guitar or accessories that attach to the body of the guitar, so it can be said also a guitarist who does not use a guitar or accessories on her body, not a real guitarist.

a lot of various accessories that are used to the guitarist, include the following:

On guitar: can we attach a form that has the impression setiker Rocker, drawing various kinds such as a skull image, images of fire, eye images, images of darkness, and so on.

On the body: Yups for a guitarist many different accessories that can be mounted on the body such as, earrings, chains, bracelets hands, neck bracelets, hats, sunglasses, rings, leather jackets, high heels, etc..

so for you who feel a real guitarist, wear accessories as much as possible on the guitar and the body, so it looks amazing.

Guitar Wood Types and Tones

You need to know the various kinds of wood used to make guitar, be it in the body of the guitar, guitar neck, fret guitar, etc., as described by the source below :

Body Woods :

  • Basswood
  • Alder
  • Swamp Ash
  • Mahogany
  • Walnut
  • Koa
  • Korina
  • Soft Maple
  • Hard Maple
  • Spruce
  • Lacewood

Body tops :

  • Maple top on Basswood
  • Maple top on Mahogany
  • Maple top on Alder
  • Maple top on Swamp Ash
  • Rosewood tops
  • Koa tops
  • Walnut tops
  • Lacewood tops

Neck woods :

  • Maple
  • Mahogany
  • Koa
  • Rosewood
  • Wenge

Fretboard Woods :

  • Maple
  • Rosewood
  • Ebony
  • Pao Ferro

Extended Range notes :

Basswood is not stiff enough for a tight, well-defined low end, especially with a shorter scale. Low notes will have good harmonics, and a good fundamental, but a midrangey tone overall.

Alder has a tighter low end than Basswood, with slightly deeper lows.

Swamp Ash is stiff enough for a crisp low end without becoming muddy. The open pores help resonate low tones. Higher overtones become more apparent in lower registers, for good harmonic content and a sharper attack.

Mahogany’s warm lows and a thick sound overall make extended lows very full and can produce muddiness in the signal. The low notes are very strong and sometimes overbearing for a pickup. A bright, crisp active pickup that thins out the low end could be a good combination.

Walnut’s tight low end and combed midrange dynamics make it well suited for extended range. It won’t get muddy unless it’s a poor specimen with softer yellowish orange areas.

Like Walnut, Koa is a good Mahogany alternative. It will have a tighter low end with less muddiness. The slightly dampened higher overtones will produce a stronger fundamental than Walnut at the expense of a sharper attack.

Korina should respond to extended lows in the same manner as Mahogany. Soft Maple’s dull lows also mean no muddiness in the extended range. It can be a good alternative to Basswood if that’s your main concern. The pickups will have to compensate for the bright upper mids.

Hard Maple will have the tightest lows for the extended range. Low notes will have a sharp attack, plenty of harmonics, and excellent sustain.

Spruce
, while capable of reproducing extended lows, is too soft not to get mushy. A neck through, a laminated top, or both would provide the needed rigidity while still highlighting the good points of Spruce. Any laminated top 1/8” or thicker will improve the tightness of the low end. The existence of the lamination will tighten any body’s muddiness. The same qualities hold true in the laminate top descriptions.

Guitar repairs

These tips for improving your own guitar so you do not need to go to a guitar shop that will spend your pocket money, so learn here, and your money will remain intact, you just need it out of your equipment. let's work

First, let's take a look at the guitar neck. Most guitar necks over time will warp because of the constant string tension. If your guitar has become harder to fret (pushing the strings down with the left hand to create chords) it may be a sign the neck needs adjustment. To check for warping remove the guitar strings from the bridge, not the tuning keys, this way you can put them back on without restringing. Take a yardstick and lay it edgewise across the neck. It should lie evenly across the frets. If not, then the neck needs adjustment.

Now that you have established the neck is warped. Check for a hex nut inside the body of the guitar or under a little coverplate in the headstock (the part of the guitar where the tuning keys are found.) This hex nut is connected to a metal rod called the trussrod. The trussrod runs through the neck of the guitar. By tightening or loosening the trussrod you can adjust the neck.

To adjust your guitar neck you need to tighten the trussrod by turning the nut clockwise. Sounds easy enough doesn't it? But wait, if you over tighten it you can break the neck, and that would be a bummer. So, turn the nut one half turn clockwise and let it sit overnight. In the morning check the neck with your yardstick. If it is still warped do the procedure again each day until the neck is straight. I know this may take awhile, but it's better to be safe than sorry. After all, we are trying to avoid costly repairs not create them.

Now that the neck is straight the next step is to check for uneven frets. Often you will hear "buzz" in your guitar caused by loose frets. To check for loose frets press the ends of each fret with the tip of your finger and check for movement. Since you will have to press down hard I suggest you use the point of pliers, but be careful. To repair loose frets first determine which end is loose, place your guitar on its side and hold down the loose fret. Use one drop of super glue or similar product and let it run down between the fret and the fingerboard holding the fret down while it dries. Again, this is not a hard procedure but if you are careless you will cause more damage than what you had to begin with.

Straightening the neck and gluing down loose frets should take care of any string "buzz" you may have. However, if after performing the above repairs you still have string buzz you may need to adjust the action. Adjusting the action is simply lowering or raising the string height above the fretboard. Again, I am dealing with the acoustic guitar not the electric. To adjust the action remove the strings the same as above. Remove the guitar saddle (the white plastic piece that the strings ride on) and place a piece of thin plastic inside the bridge where the saddle sits. This will raise the strings above the fretboard and hopefully stop the string buzz. This will take some trial and error because you may raise it to high and make the fretting harder. So take your time and when it feels right stop.

To adjust the action on an electric guitar screw in or out the hex nut located under each string on the bridge. This will lower or raise each string individually. So, Be very careful while performing this adjustment. If you raise the string height to much you may change the intonation of your instrument. If the string is to low it will cause a fret buzz.

So there you have it, all the tools and information you need to perform the basic repairs yourself. As with anything in life it will take time and patience. But with a little practice you will be able to perform all the repairs yourself.

Guitar FX Box

You are looking for a real-time sound (guitar/voice) processor? You need one with very low I/O latency? And to contain excellent quality effects (REAL effects - not just some simple time delay effects like echo, chorus, flanger)? And that is easy to use, and small for download? And that is very affordable? Well, you've come to the right place

What does Guitar FX Box do?

Just plug your guitar into the sound card input, start Guitar FX BOX and your guitar will sing and scream. You can apply a wide range of high quality effects to guitar, voice and other inputs. This sound processing program is acting just like a good collection of guitar effects pedals. You can use several of them at the same time, even all if you need so.

Guitar FX BOX does REALLY real-time DSP. Signal is sampled from sound card input, processed and then sent to the output with VERY LOW LATENCY. Unlike many other "real-time" audio programs, I/O delay with Guitar FX BOX is extremely low, virtually undetectable! This is achieved using DirectSound (or WDM streaming) for fast access to the hardware (sound card) and fast DSP algorithms optimized for real-time processing. Through DirectSound, latency is about 20ms with most sound cards, or even less. When WDM streaming driver is used, latency can go as low as 5ms! Nevertheless, exact total i/o latency still depends on hardware/drivers.

Guitar FX BOX is made from the ground up to be easy to use. With user interface intuitive and friendly, this is ultimate application for real-time effects processing. Any program option is just one or two mouse clicks away. Everything is real-time, every slider move results in instant change of produced sound.

Ukuleles Collectors

Just about every major guitar maker has produced a ukulele (often misspelled ukelele) at one time or another. Martin offered three ukulele models to its customers in 1918. The diminutive 12- and 17-fret instruments were followed in the 1920s by concert and tenor models, while the Martin 5-K from 1922, with its koa wood body and abalone inlay, is much in demand among collectors.

Gibson introduced its first ukulele in 1926. The highly collectible Uke-2 and Uke-3 styles from that year had mahogany bodies and rosewood fingerboards. Gibson also made tenor ukuleles (1927) and a baritone model (1961)...

Today, ukuleles are experiencing a revival, thanks in no small part to the sustained popularity of the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole’s ukulele medley of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World,” which has provided the soundtrack for everything from films to TV commercials. Aspiring musicians, with perhaps more good intentions than natural talent, also love them, probably because they are just so darned easy to play.

Not surprisingly, a host of guitar makers have jumped on the uke bandwagon. National makes an entire line of resonator ukuleles, from steel-body models to maple and mahogany ones. Martin continues to make ukuleles, as does a well-regarded boutique ukulele maker named Barking Dog.

Cheap guitar

want to buy a nice guitar, but not so much have the money, here you will find ways and tips to get a guitar with a budget that is not great, so do not worry if your money is not sufficient for a guitar that you desire

  1. Get the newspaper. Look for yard sales in your area. If you see one that says guitars, etc, or it says block or estate sale, check it out, and go early!
  2. Look around for pawn shops, sometimes they have really good guitars for sale!
  3. Look on sites like Craigslist or eBay for guitars, sometimes you can find good deals, and you may be able to try them out.
  4. Be sure that when you are walking around you look near dumpsters, although it may sound crazy, you can even look in the trash. If you find one, it might be broken, but very rarely will it be broken beyond repair. This works if you live in or near a city.
  5. Ask friends or family to look out for guitars in the trash or at a sale. You never know they might find one in a place you didn't think to look.
  6. Look at small, hardly noticeable, guitar stores. Sometimes they are so desperate, they will sell you a good guitar for very little.
  7. Go to places like the boardwalk or a fair, sometimes you can win guitars, although most of the time they aren't that good.
  8. Go to thrift stores and salvation army, most of the time that is where you'll find good guitars.
  9. Rock until the sun goes down once you've found the guitar you're looking for!
  10. Remember, before buying used, know what the guitar goes for new by searching a site like lownotes.net - sometimes the difference is very small, and you get the security of being the first owner.

Tips

  • At yard sales, ALWAYS try to bargain.
  • Don't expect to get the best guitars ever this way, they might be very cheap. Low cost ($35 in 1970s) guitars from department stores were not very good and not acceptable.
  • Research on the guitar brands by reading online reviews.
  • Before purchasing anything, keep all your options open and look at all of your possibilities.
  • Don't buy the first one you see.
  • If you are a beginner, try to get guitars that come with tuners,case,amp, or picks. Look at guitar center for starter packs, which include these items.
